Please join us as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Tri-State Academy of Legal Studies in Business. The 2016 Annual Conference will be held at Oakland University on Friday, October 21, 2016 in the historic Meadow Brook Hall.  Meadow Brook Hall holds some significance to business law scholars as it is located on the former estate of the auto baron John Dodge. Not only is 2016 the 25th anniversary of our organization but is also the 100th anniversary of when John Dodge initiated litigation against Ford Motor Company. The litigation culminated in the Michigan Supreme Court decision in Dodge v. Ford Motor Co., 170 N.W. 668 (Mich. 1919), which established the precedent that a business corporation is organized primarily for the profit of the stockholders. A tour of the estate will be a part of the conference and it will give us a glimpse into how auto industry profits were spent in the early 20th century.

All faculty and students interested in business law-related issues are encouraged to attend. Papers submitted by September 21, 2016 will be peer reviewed for publication in the Conference Proceedings. Those wishing to share works-in-progress can have their abstracts included in the Proceedings if submitted by that date.

Tri-State cordially invites students to submit papers, abstracts or to prepare posters for display at the conference. A discounted registration fee is available to all students to encourage their participation.

Conference registration form and further information available on the Tri-State website.

Conference Chair, Jennifer Cordon Thor, can be reached at thor@oakland.edu or 248-370-4091.
